For as far back as recorded history allows us to travel, we can see that people of all walks of life, of all parts of the world, seem to have an innate need to create. From the earliest cave paintings of Lascaux, France to the stirring graffiti adorning the Berlin Wall, from the Renaissance angels of Raphael to the larger-than-life gardens of Georgia O'Keefe, art has continually served as an outlet for communal and individual expression. On a more personal level, as an art therapist and an artist myself, I am a firm believer in the numerous benefits creating artwork can bring to people. Through my work, I have seen firsthand the powerful ability art has to comfort and heal.
With a humanistic and person-centered approach to counseling, it is my belief that everyone has the capacity to achieve his or her full potential. Without regard to age, background, or current challenges, using art as a tool for emotional expression can be a powerful aid in helping individuals accomplish this ultimate goal. As an art therapist, I help individuals learn how to use art materials and create their own artwork in an effort to express themselves in a healthy way, healing both the body and mind together as one. Art has always been a passion of mine from the time I was a small child, and it is both a joy and a privilege to be able to use this love in service of others today.
